International Experience
Ashutosh Sheshabalaya's understanding of India's emergence derives significance from a rich international career. He has extensive experience in analysing business and regulatory trends across Europe, the US and Japan, and advising a wide range of customers on market opportunities and risks. In turn, his hands-on familiarity with the Western business environment provides real-world depth to his interpretations about India's impact.
Mr. Sheshabalaya began his career as an accredited foreign correspondent. In 1982-1985, he was Benelux and European Communities (EC) Correspondent for the Press Trust of India, Asia's largest news agency. This was followed in 1985-88 with concurrent assignments as a public affairs consultant for the Japanese Mission to the EC (at the peak of Japan's trade conflicts with Europe), editorial writer for Arab Business Report and an analyst for Frost & Sullivan. Between 1988 and 1991, Mr. Sheshabalaya worked as a senior consultant with
PriceWaterhouse, where he reported to the Director EC Services.
In 1991, he was headhunted by Egon Zehnder to lead the Communications Department of EFPIA, the European pharmaceutical industry federation, in the critical years during the run up to the Single Market. Mr. Sheshabalaya's mandate was to tune and differentiate EFPIA's communications strategy towards the European Commission, the Parliament and its committees, the OECD, the WHO, the UN, healthcare professionals, the international media and the pharmaceutical industry itself.
Mr. Sheshabalaya resigned from EFPIA in 1994, and turned to strategic consulting on the European market. In total, he has led research projects for over 60 studies covering a wide range of industries. Clients have included small- and medium-sized enterprises, law firms and investment banks, Fortune 500 corporations such as Dow Chemical, DuPont, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Johnson & Johnson, Reliance
Industries and Rhone- Poulenc as well as the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the European Commission and
Invest in Sweden Agency.
In his varied career, Mr. Sheshabalaya’s work has involved assignments as diverse as the Worldwide Marketing Code of Practice for Janssen Pharmaceutica, the Infopack for the EU's European Year of the Environment and the medical devices section for its first Panorama of EC Industry, technical and PR documentation for Japanese construction major Komatsu, brewing giant Interbrew and pacemaker pioneer St. Jude Medical, establishment of benchmarking and metrics for R&D valorization at European
labs, GlaxoSmithKline's strategic study on the world vaccines industry and Frost & Sullivan's first research report on AIDS. |
